Travelling around Peterborough
Peterborough has fast road connections via the A1(M) for north-south journeys and the A14 and A47 east-west routes. Parking is available in Acland Street, right in the City Centre and close to Queensgate Shopping Centre which has easy access and parking at a cost of £3 per day. The city is serviced by a network of dual carriageway parkways, these divert high volumes of traffic from the city centre and cut travel times across the city. Peterborough is one of four environment cities in the UK and is committed to providing sustainable transport.
In 2004 Peterborough City Council was awarded £3.24 million by the Department for Transport to help transform the city into a 'Sustainable Travel Demonstration Town'. From an initial submission of over 50 towns throughout the UK, Peterborough was selected as one of three towns to share £10 million of government funding. The funding was allocated over a five year period and helped form the foundation of sustainable transport options in Peterborough.
